KIERAN HEBDEN (FOUR TET) and veteran jazz drummer STEVE REID

Steve Reid is the legendary drummer who in 1964 at 19 years of age played on Martha Reeves & the Vandellas' ‘Dancing In The Street', and subsequently went on to play with Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and James Brown (think about that for a moment), not to mention Fats Domino, Sun Ra, Peggy Lee, Chaka Khan, Dexter Gordon, Dionne Warwick and many, many more. Their unique live show blends Kieran's electronic experimentation with Steve Reid's laid back yet complex driving polyrhythms. Tonight's show will see them playing new material from their forthcoming release, out on Domino in October.

A true pioneer of US left-field deep jazz, steeped in musical history. Steve Reid has played with the likes of Fela Kuti, James Brown, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Miles Davis and many more. Born in 1944, and cutting his first record under the direction of Quincy Jones in 1961, Steve's career has crossed continents; he lived in Africa for 3 years, playing in numerous African bands for the governments of 10 of it's nations. Steve Reid is forty years of living drum history where African rhythms and the harmonic explorations of John Coltrane come together. Steve grew up living next door to John Coltrane, worked in a department store with Ornette Coleman, and his son is the drummer for 50 Cent and NWA...!

Concrete and Glass, an innovative music and contemporary art event will take over 30 alternative-site exhibitions, 18 music venues, and numerous local gallery spaces in the renowned creative cauldron of London's Shoreditch on Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd of October by bringing together the cream of new, original and established bands and artists.

With 18 venues taking part in Concrete and Glass, the musical line up is as diverse as each setting, with well-established names nestling next to the most exciting up-and-coming acts.

The line-up has been curated by Tom Baker - who under his Eat Your Own Ears banner has promoted the likes of Danger Mouse (aka Gnarls Barkley) Four Tet, Bloc Party, Peaches, The Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park, Mercury Award Winners Franz Ferdinand and Antony and The Johnsons. He currently promotes Battles, Animal Collective, Bat For Lashes, Jamie T and Kate Nash in London and also books and promotes the Field Day and Underage Festivals.
The art strand is being overseen by Flora Fairbairn; an established curator, who routinely collaborates with architects and developers to transform disused spaces into thriving exhibition spaces. Concrete and Glass will feature over 30 projects in disused warehouses, outdoor spaces and empty shops in collaboration with curators, artists and galleries at it's centrepiece, Heart of Glass; a project organised in association with the Contemporary Art Society.
